Laura has worked with children and their families for over 30 years, first as a teacher and school administrator, on a personal level as a foster and adoptive parent, then as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, next as a Parent Coach, and then as a case manager. Through all of these experiences she has found that the most challenging and rewarding work was one-on-one with a child or parent who was hurting. Laura's gift is in building a rapport and understanding, and seeing strengths where others see only weaknesses. Laura's Interns have experience with children as well. If you bring your child to us for therapy, he/she will be cherished, not "discussed" or "fixed". We require parents to be involved in the therapy and will help you see your child in a new light.
Laura's specialty is in working with traumatized children, including those who have experienced significant loss through foster care and/or adoption.
Some of the treatment modalities we use are play therapy, sand tray therapy, milieu therapy, and artistic expression.
